Meet Amelia!

Hello all!  Hope you have had a wonderful weekend!  The Mr. has been busy delivering loads to all the antique booths today.  Including the lovely piece that was named in the Name Game Giveaway!  I had so much fun with this giveaway, so I am sure I will do it again.  I chose my favorites from the great names you provided and then let Mr. Hughes and my sweet sister pick their favorite... and they chose the same name... and it was just perfect.  So, meet Amelia!

Amelia was named by Amy, so Amy, if you are reading, contact me with your address and choice of pillow or Mimi tote.  I gave this piece a light grey paint and she needed just a little something extra... so Mr. Hughes suggested chicken wire.  And it just fit.

Something a little rustic to tone down her sweetness... check out those legs and casters.  I adore casters!

I love the little shield shaped raised details too.  She is at Winchester Antiques in case any of you locals are in in love with her too!  Thanks to you all for commenting.  Well, I will be back soon with some things that are now checked off my To Do list!  Yay!

Meet Mary

Happy Monday to you all!

I am sick... yes, it seems that baby hughes cold or virus or whatever he had has blessed us all.  

Of course, if I have to be home sick, I want to be right here in my warm, breezy backyard watching my boy play with a vintage train and yell at the wind.

We had a wonderful weekend.... great weather...lots of gardening and cooking out and I even painted our upstairs hall.

And also, if you are wondering,  Frog Tape isn't any better than regular painter's tape.  There, I said it.  Of course, it may just be me and my methods.

I even finished a new piece.

And one sweet girl helped me name her after I pondered aloud (on twitter)  what her name should be.

She jokingly suggested her own name... which also happens to be my mother's name.

And it stuck.

So, Meet Mary.

Both are quite sweet and vintage loving.

And pretty!

The weather is pretty and getting warmer, so I can only imagine that I will be painting up a storm in the weeks to come.  I have a few pieces waiting on me to just choose a color already... light grey... or medium grey.... or blue...

busy, busy, busy

 

Hello all!

How was your weekend?  Ours was quite busy... both of our mothers came to visit.

I finished up a order of my lady silhouette totes for a bride.

So, my home is a bit torn apart from finishing up the totes and making all the flower corsages for them.

But it was fun! I love doing custom orders, especially for weddings... I LOVE weddings!

I also finished up a larger chest... it definitely needed the two-tone treatment to bring out the details.

This is the Miller.  She is perfect for all the warm, thick fuzzy sweaters that need to go into storage since Spring is upon us!

This time change nearly does me in every year, but I sooooo enjoy the extra hour of daylight.

Last night I felt so tired, but so productive with that extra hour.  Who knows?  I may take up cooking... no wait... scratch that... I just remembered my dishwasher broke, so I am filled up with domestic duties.

But I did order a little vintage dish rack to help me pretty up my new chore.

The kitchen is remarkably cleaner since it broke.

I am planning some fun changes to the upstairs to our home and I hope to share very, very soon!  Just bought some sample cans!

Some News and Some New Pieces

hello!  how's your day?

Ours is rainy, rainy!  But I know that it will pay off when all the green comes out.

Green is my favorite!

So I thought I would show you a few new pieces and share some fun news that I received yesterday.

Someone local found my little blog after Scarlett posted a link.

And, that someone is the publisher for a local antiques magazine, The Busy Bee Trader.

Well, she asked me to write some small filler articles for the magazine!  

Pretty cool, huh?

So, I submitted my first article to her today just in time for the deadline and it should be out in April.

Now, I normally wouldn't share news like this until it is in print, but what the hey... I am pretty excited!

Now, would you like to meet some new pieces... sure you would...

Meet Twiggy!  She also has an identical twin sister named... uhhh... Twiggy!  

This pair of chairs was a little bit of a deviation from my usual style, but they were fun and I la-ove the green fabric on them.

This library table is called Harper.  I painted her a light grey and I think it enhanced the lines nicely.

I think it would be a perfect desk with its small drawer.

And, this bench is much cuter in person... trust me.  It has been so rainy and the Mr. just had to deliver her and take a photo inside.

Anyhow, her name is Sara (after a very sweet friend!)  and very nearly stayed here along one side of my dining room table!

She looks great with pillows on either end... the ruffly linen variety.

Hello there!

I know you were probably expecting photos of all the delicious things I saw while I was at the Music Valley Antiques Show.  They were delicious.  And Rich... too rich for our blood.

I came home empty handed (this is where you feel sorry for me.)

I will show you photos, all in good time my dears. I have to get them off the camera.

But, in the meantime, Meet Lucy!

Lucy used to be blah brown but now she is a fun redhead... I mean... a fun grey and blue cabinet!

I think she would be perfect in a bathroom with fluffy white towels and some apothecary-ish jars.

I lined her with some vintage sheet music... stole it from Ricky's stack... I mean, Mr. Hughes.

So, I have been noticing some fun Question and Answer sessions with some bloggers and totally copied them... err... I mean, was inspired by them.

I never get really personal on this blog.

And, I am a somewhat nosy person.... I wonder who you guys are behind the computer screen.

I have decided to open the floor to questions.

Please?!?  Feed my ego and make me think you really care what my favorite cookie is (white chocolate macadamia nut.)

And, I promise to play along as long as things don't get too crazy *wink*

Fashion Becomes Furniture

hello all!

It is snowing. 

Again.

It took me awhile to get home.

But I am here safe and sound.

As much as I complain about the winter, the snow is quite pretty.

As long as this girl doesn't drive in it, then it is okay.

But it had better be clear tomorrow for momma to get her haircut!!

I think in my last post I lead you to believe that Mr. Hughes is against the lovely mirror staying.

Oh, the contrary!  I am a lucky lady when it comes to husbands and the decorating.  

He likes it as much as I do.  He even suggested a few places for it to work.

I am just sure that if I decided to rearrange the whole downstairs to make this mirror work better then he would not be so happy.

Some of you came up with some great suggestions for the mirror and it seems the consensus is for me to keep it, or to send it to a few of you.

So, I got sidetracked... the real purpose of my post is showing you the inspiration for one of my newest pieces, the Meghan.

I didn't really even realize I was inspired or I had filed the photo away in my head to be pulled out later, half way through a project.

So how fabulous are these spectator pumps?

In the spirit of fabulous, two-tonedness, here is Meghan!

I kept the hardware original.  I just love the lines of this piece.  She was a bit hohum before the cream on warm grey treatment.

And, her drawers are lined with vintage sheet music.

As always, I would love to keep her.

But, she is at one of the booths waiting on someone (who may just be wearing a great pair of vintage pumps) to take her home.

Well, duty calls... or more specifically, chubby baby toes needing to be tickled!

Blah Blog

I was thinking this morning... I haven't really been keeping up all that well with blogs (mine or yours) and such.  And, I think I may be in a little of a blogging slump.  But, while I haven't been necessarily doing bloggy things, I have been doing life things.  So, I thought I would tell you what has been going on the Vintage Junky house and sprinkle in a few photos of the newest pieces that I have completed for funsies.

First off, let me tell you about the fabulousness of last Saturday. For my hyena anyhow.  And, let's face it, if he is having a good time, most likely I am too.

We went to the Pumpkinfest on Main Street in Franklin.  But before we went there, we went to a train store.  Where he stole a "woowoo choochoo" (ie an ambulance) from a little girl and proceeded to take over the entire train table.  He loves his trains. I am amazed of how many names he knows and how I am pretty sure colors are coming next. Seriously folks, we quiz him.  And he knows most of those silly trains.

So, after I literally dragged him out kicking and screaming (and hitting) we went to the Fest. It was packed!  I dressed baby hughes in his owl costume in the car and we set off to the toy store to look to see if they had the woo woo choochoos... I am an enabler, I won't lie. They didn't (but amazon did *wink*) so he picked out Duke instead. 

Then, after walking around and playing with a random giraffe, we went to eat pizza (cheesebread for the raptor.) It is his favorite place to eat..... you can just tell.  He loves it. On our way home, we stopped by a cupcake place to get what he had requested earlier in the day... a cucake.

So, between the owl costume, all the train goodness, the cheesebread and the cupcake, I am thinking I am the most totally awesome mom ever.

What did he ask for the next day.... choochoos. And later... cucake.

And, as awesome as I am, I have been reluctant to give in to the whole train table deal.  I love my kid and all, but I really don't want our home to look like a daycare.  Sorry if that offends you, but it is the truth.  But, after seeing that monster like totally zone out and really get into it, I am going to let Mr. Hughes build a train table... actually repurpose some furniture that we have in the garage.  I am pretty tight with Santa, so I have a pretty good idea that baby hughes will be getting some pretty swell Thomas stuff this year. And, the little table downstairs isn't going to cut it.  And, apparently the floor won't either.

Which brings me to my next "what I have been doing point"

I am almost completely finished Christmas shopping.

That is right. Throw some confetti and do a happy dance for me.  Just don't hate.

You want to know my secret... free shipping.  Oh and etsy of course.

And, while I haven't been really mixing things up in the house (a few things in the works)

I have been purging still.  I redid the bookshelves and got rid of some books.

And, the house has been pretty clean for the past couple of weeks too.

And, the laundry has been kept up too.

I found that if I don't wait until the hampers are exploding and the Mr is complaining that he has no socks, that the laundry will be in control. So, I do a load every other day.

Exciting and compelling, I know.

And, we have been taking a few steps to expand the business.  Mainly, looking for another place for a second Vintage Junky booth.  And, taking steps and spending money on my business always makes me a wee bit nervous.  I am somewhat of a perfectionist and I don't like to fail. Especially when it involves money.

I am excited that a few Vintage Junky items (like the Holly chair) are at Winchester Antiques in Franklin.  I don't have a booth there, but the owner was nice enough to allow me to place some items there.

I am also getting a few things ready for my etsy shop (which I updated the other day with some vintage lovelies) and for my booth at The Roost (which is having a open house this Saturday.)

And, guys, I am ready for Christmas.  I am ready to make new stockings and new ornaments and lets face it..... I won't be able to make it thorough without adding more snowflakes.

So, be looking for some craftiness in the near future.

The After, After, After

Hello there!  How's your week?  You know, you can really answer that if you want to...

I am changing things up in the ol' Casa de Hughes... but I think I may have found one spot that is really finished this time...

It drives Mr. Hughes crazy for me to change something that I have said is "all finished."

Every time I find a piece of furniture that I love, love and NEED to take home, he always asks...

I never planned on the Della lasting... she was always meant to go to the booth
But I really did love her too...

I loved the Della so, I decided to paint Kate the same color... what a difference the lighting makes...
So, I really, really think that it will stay this way. For awhile *wink*
No really, I am serious this time.

And, that mirror... constantly has fingerprints and "smooches" on it .... it is where baby hughes and I roar and practice silly faces... we are fond of the silliness......

Hey there!  Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  We had a change of weekend plans that worked out just fine for us, we roll with it.  But, you aren't here to hear about my weekend or to hear that I got to finish a book... nope, you are here to see the great furniture that everyone has sent me.  So, let's get started with

first a sideboard that she didn't keep (but wanted to... I know that feeling!)

And here is a piece that she lugged home to paint for her daughter's room

Okay, here is Heather from Blessed Little Nest

It was my grandmother's table and she gave it to my mom.  It was in my house as a kid and then my mom gave it to me.  It was barely holding on

and eventually just became a pile of pieces until my hubby and my son put it back together and painted it for my birthday this year.  They worked

together to paint and sand it, and then to wax it.  I love that her table has found a new life in our home.  and I really love the way it works with my

orange headboard and the neutrals in my bedroom.

What a great birthday gift!  I love pieces that have such meaning behind them.

I know the writing is really, really faint.... but, look closely at what I found in our paper stash...

I had the hardest time deciding... green on blue or blue on green... I love a great green with aqua...

I knew I wanted a print of some type... but I couldn't find the perfect wallpaper.

So, I improvised and ordered some woven cane... I adore, ADORE cane print!

It is hard to see, but the green is the same green I used on the Michelle chair

Did I tell you where I got that color...

I had them color match a kate spade bag.

My favorite green of all the greens!

This girl is quite useful too...

the drawers hold our scarves and hats... well, one does.

The other 2 are keeping up with the clutter I have created around the house recently.
