A Giveaway: Post Road Vintage

Hello all!  Hope you are doing well!  Sometimes (sometimes!) I get a little caught up in the details.  Like I really, really wanted something to put my dish soap in that would look pretty.  And that was 4 years ago... maybe more.  When I finally decided to use the mason jar pumps, I looked around and decided that I wanted to hunt the *perfect* jar.  Well, I found it... like a year or two ago.  Then, I decided to get a crown jar... one of the smokey ones... ahh... smokey grey... anyhow, I realized that they don't take a standard zinc lid like my pretty aqua-y Atlas did.  So, I pulled a switcheroo and now I have a great mason jar pump (with green dish liquid... the Mr. says I have to use it all up before finding something to bring out the beauty in my jar.)   And, this story is to tell you all how I met Heather from Post Road Vintage.

You may know her from her blog, or her popular e-zine Homebound, or etsy.  However you know her, you know this girl has simple, stylish living down pat.  And, she is creative and makes great, functional products.  Her soap dispensers don't get yucky or leak.  She has researched how to make her product better.

So, after "meeting" her and ordering one of her pumps for my very own found jar, I twisted her arm until she agreed to do a giveaway of one of my favorite products of hers....

She puts a special finish on old mason jars to make them look like old white pottery.  So pretty!  I love it... I think I will have to get one of these too!

Custom Chalk Giveaway

hello and happy Wednesday! Hope you are all having a wonderful week.  To be quite honest, ours could be a bit better... we have some weird home repair issues going on... somehow our downstairs light globe was filled with the dirty washing machine water... very strange and we aren't really sure how it happened or how I didn't get electrocuted when I flipped on the switch.  And, the hyena is sick... ugh!  So, last night was a long one.  I am sure to get it...  a 3 year old doesn't remember to cover his mouth when he is half asleep and holding you close.  Okay, stepping away from the negative and onto the positive!

 I was at the shoppe the other day and was getting together a little giveaway and all the sudden it came to me.... I had the perfect giveaway right in the shoppe... Mr Hughes!  No, not giving him away (at least not today... I need him to deliver furniture *wink*)  I asked him to giveaway one of his great chalkboards and he jumped on board and chalked up a little board to announce the giveaway!

This is the first board he did way back in August or September.  After he did this one, he quickly started getting orders for custom ones and then he opened up his etsy shoppe and he has done quite a few really great boards for weddings and birthdays and anniversaries.  It is awesome to watch him start with a chalk design and eventually work up to something permanent.  We carry ready made ones like menu boards at the shoppe and some fun smaller designs as well.  The one above though is mineallmine!  *wink*

I have been after him to do a birth announcement one and we have a few more new designs planned for that line that he will chalk up soon.  Oh, and this one is random names... trust me... baby hughes was *much* larger and born at the beginning of August (still waiting on my mommy badge!)

Anyhow, they are amazing art and I am not just saying that since he is my Mr.  And, we are so excited to give one away! So, I am guessing you would like to know how to enter....

New Year's Giveaway!

Hello all!  Hope your New Year has started great!  A few issues of Country Living ago, I was reading about this candle company called Linnea's Lights.  Around that same time, I opened the shoppe and wanted to include a few product lines, specifically a candle line.  After reading the feature on this company, I just knew (without even smelling them!) that they were the right fit for the shoppe.  So, I quickly contacted them and worked with a couple of really sweet ladies to place an order.  I couldn't be more impressed with the candles.  The packaging (recycled or recyclable) is gorgeous!  I love things in pretty packages!  And, they smell divine!  They are made in small batches (hand- poured) with soy wax and cotton (lead free) wicks.  Each candle comes with its own little box of matches as well.  It is little things like this that make them so special.  But, what is really special is the story behind the company.

Lynn (left) started making candles as a hobby.  And, as hobbies have the habit of doing, it led her to selling her candles at local fairs in Indiana with her husband, Danny.  From there, it grew into Linnea's Lights... the name is inspired by their family's Swedish roots.  After Lynn's husband passed away, her daughter Laura (right) came on board to oversee certain aspects of the company.  These two ladies continue to remain deeply involved in the production, planning, sales, and marketing of their company.  

Not only am I impressed with their product, but also their wonderful customer service.  It is always nice to know the story behind the company and it is wonderful to do business with nice people *smiles*

So, I contacted Laura with a little idea about a giveaway here on the blog and she went for it.  I did ask her what her favorite scent was (Amber) and Lynn's as well (Magnolia.)  Those are the two that we are giving away this week!  There will be 2 winners drawn randomly.  Here is how you can enter:

Meet Amelia!

Hello all!  Hope you have had a wonderful weekend!  The Mr. has been busy delivering loads to all the antique booths today.  Including the lovely piece that was named in the Name Game Giveaway!  I had so much fun with this giveaway, so I am sure I will do it again.  I chose my favorites from the great names you provided and then let Mr. Hughes and my sweet sister pick their favorite... and they chose the same name... and it was just perfect.  So, meet Amelia!

Amelia was named by Amy, so Amy, if you are reading, contact me with your address and choice of pillow or Mimi tote.  I gave this piece a light grey paint and she needed just a little something extra... so Mr. Hughes suggested chicken wire.  And it just fit.

Something a little rustic to tone down her sweetness... check out those legs and casters.  I adore casters!

Name Game Giveaway

Hello and Happy Wednesday!  I just put a coat of primer on the last one on my new dining room chairs!  The fabric came yesterday, so I hope to do a little reveal on Monday at the latest. Hey... I am realistic.  I get easily distracted.  So, while they could be finished tomorrow, they probably won't.  As I was putting the finishing touches on some other pieces that will go to the booths this week, I thought it would be a little fun to have a giveaway where YOU name a piece.  And I will give you your choice of a

I want to take this time right now at to tell you how grateful I am for all of your encouraging comments and every bit of your support.  I love doing what I am doing now.  I have been painting furniture for awhile... since I was in high school ( a long, long time ago.)  I am sure my mother has one of my first pieces still... with layers (hand painted sunflowers under crackle paint under whatever it is now... gasp... crackle paint!)  I don't do this as a hobby.  It is a passion of mine.  Some people paint on canvas, I paint furniture.  It isn't something that the Mr. likes for me to do to get me out of his hair.  He supports me every step of the way.  I don't say this to act like I invented painting furniture or that I have been doing this longer than anyone else, but to let you know how extremely blessed I feel to be doing what I love, finally.  I know that this painted furniture trend may not last forever. And, that I may not be able to make money at it forever.  I would be painting furniture regardless of me selling it.  But, then we would probably be on hoarders.  So thank you  and now, give my piece a name!

A Vintagey Outdoor Table

Hello there!

While watering my plants the other day, I remembered last year at this time I had tons of hydrangeas... enough to steal quite a few.... and this year none.  I remembered that I had done a guest post for Heather last year around this time using those same abundant hydrangeas, so I thought I would share that with you in case some of you didn't see it last year... 

Since it is so close to Father's Day, I wanted to do a little entertaining post.  Who says that dads don't care about nice looking surroundings?  My Mr. Hughes loves vintage finds and likes when I fluff the house. So, I designed a table and a menu with things I know he would like.  And, with the exception of a few new finds, everything was found around our home, so this was a very thrifty project.  You could easily change a few things to make this party your own, be it a Father's Day Cookout or a nice little Garden Tea.

This gives you an overall view of the table... I set up outdoors because it has a very garden look to it.

I made some moss "chargers" by forming some sheet moss into a tray and putting some pressure on it, then I just lifted it out of the tray and placed it on the table. It stayed together quite nicely.  

I added some of my vintage ironstone plates... if you don't have any ironstone, check your local Goodwill for some vintage restaurantware  or just use some of your own plates.  I added a length of vintage black and white ribbon to play off of the little oval dishes that hold the silverware.

Which is vintage as well.... some people think it is a little yucky to eat with tarnished flatware, so you may want to have backups for the less adventurous guests.

I stenciled some vintage napkins that had a handkerchief look to them with some numbers because I am a little crazy about numbers.  Then I tied a vintage pocket watch face to them, creating a ring.  Embellish it with a pheasant feather and you have a very masculine table setting.

I found these great birch covered planters (my new splurge) at Scarlett Scales.  I only say splurge because they were the one purchase I made for this... they were quite affordable. I love them and already have another party coming up that I will use them for.  The little glass jars are great... they have a crown on them.  I just filled them with sand and added a candle.

The hydrangeas were from our garden.  If your Mr. isn't the flowery type, it would be great to fill these planters with herbs... fragrant and pretty.

I think I may do a version of this again for this weekend for some friends we are having over.  If only I had those hydrangeas!!

And, since I pulled this from the vault, it looks like my siggy isn't working.  Oh well... off to get some pieces finished before the hyena wakes up.

Little Changes + a Giveaway

Hello all!  How was your weekend?  Ours was rainy... booo!  Doesn't Mother Nature know it is May?

I have been making a few small changes around the casa lately.  I started selling these botanical prints (found by Mr. Hughes) in my booth a few months ago and they have been popular.  When I repainted the upstairs hall, I needed something to complement the new color (Rainwater by Martha Stewart, in case you would like to know.)

And since I like to change things up, (especially in wall decor,) and because I am not a lover of filling in and painting over holes.... I decided to put up a little botanical gallery wall with Japanese Washi Tape.

I adore the stuff!  And I can take this down anytime I like, with no holes!  

I just got the vintage sewing chair a few weeks ago and the Mr. found me a spouse for it this past weekend.  Almost identical. 

So that is my happy little hallway.

Hello hello hellooooo!

How are you?

I have the day off so I am great!

Baby is napping.

I will go paint some stuff in a few minutes, but I wanted to share a crafty, Easter-y project that baby hughes and I attempted.  

From Country Living

From the moment I saw these sweet little nests, I knew I wanted to try them.  baby hughes was super excited when I was setting everything up.  When it was time to start, it occupied him for probably 5 minutes tops.  I had to finish the one he started on.

Here are ours.... we used vintage maps for these two.  If I do it again, I will use our shredder to get the pieces more fine.

After Easter, if they aren't destroyed, I think we will use it to hold his growing rock collection.

here is another that I used old book pages for.  It was lots of fun... well, for me.  Quite messy though and they take awhile to dry.  I also painted little wooden eggs a pale blue with brown specs.
