A Deconstructed Sampler

I have been doing a little project this past month with my embroidery on my other blog. I did one letter a day and added a few little flowers to create this deconstructed sampler.  I have had this idea in my mind for quite some time and finally got around to doing it.  I do plan on selling them individually and as a whole in my etsy shop once I get the individual photos taken.

Which brings me to my next thought. I am thinking of combining my 2 shops and 2 blogs into Vintage Junky.  I thought it would be easier to keep things separate, but it is just more to keep up with.  So, I am asking your opinion on my blog.... would you like to see more embroidery/knitting/sewing type pursuits on Vintage Junky?  I originally separated it because I thought that the content was different.  But, it all within my interests.  So, what do you think?  

Black is the new Black

Last week I tackled a project that had been on my list for quite some time.  The front door needed painting badly.  And, since we live in a subdivision with a HOA, I decided to just paint it black again since I would have to get permission to paint it any other color.  Plus, if I am being totally honest, black looks the best, but I would love to live in a white house where I could change the door color seasonally.  And, I had been wanting to paint the back of the front door... and I really wanted that to be black regardless of the front.  So, I painted it.  And I love the change.

I also hung this big hoop I embroidered with a ribbon and a few tacks tacked into the top of the door.  

Now for the boring, tiny before photos of the back of my front door through the ages (seriously, it isn't a long timeline.)

This is the color that  I most recently had it painted.  It was leftover paint from the dining room and I was just so tired of looking at the white.  I also removed the big painted wood piece and am planning on putting something else there.  I am taking that piece to my booth at Winchester this week when I go to restock.

We have been living outside for the most part.  Eating, playing, reading, crafting... it is all better outside!  We went on a little hunting trip Saturday and I found some treasures for me.  I will share those soon.

Now, I am off to finish up some pieces for some clients!

Thimbled Patterns

Hello all! Hope you had a lovely weekend!  This is the first weekend in awhile that I did practically nothing.  Like, didn't leave the house for a couple of days (I was feeling a bit ehhh...) But, still, it was wonderful!  I worked on some embroidery patterns and some orders and that was it.  I am still working on getting my blog for thimbled up and running, but in the meantime, I figured I would just post that sort of thing here.  The Mr worked on getting some of my designs into pdf patterns and they are now available here.  I have a few more that I am finishing up over the next few days and then I will post them as well.

Thanks for all your sweet comments about my little embroideries!  My head is overflowing with ideas and my fingers can't stitch them fast enough!  Be back soon with some shoppe photos and possibly some home photos.... I have a new studio space after all!

Introducing thimbled!

Happy Friday!  I have had a little secret project that if you follow me on Instagram you may have guessed... I decided to open a little etsy shoppe just for my embroidery.  The Mr and I have worked up some original designs and I will offer actual embroideries and patterns as well (should have them up this weekend.) I thought I would also add some fun vintage sewing items as well.  So, check out thimbled:

I have several other designs in the works and wandering around in my mind.  I also will have a blog up very soon.  I thought I would keep it separate from this one for those of you who are only interested in vintage and shoppe talk.  Okay, that's all!  Have a fantastic weekend!

Long time, No Post

hello there!  I have been so bad with posting and taking photos, but that is summertime for you, even if it isn't officially here.  We have been busy.busy.busy here... more on that later... lots of fun and exciting stuff!  We are living it up a bit before the hyena starts preschool... I signed him up for a summer session.  Anyone that has met him knows that he doesn't need the social interaction *wink*  But, we want him to be ready for kindergarten when it comes... either in one or 2 years... he has an August birthday and is pretty wild!

One of the things I managed to finish was framing my sampler.  I have since added some other things to this wall.

I painted the frame a really pale grey and I am pleased with how it turned out.  I have since done a few more embroidery projects... I will share those soon!

I have been working on this room.  I think I have the Mr convinced to get rid of this sofa and move the one from downstairs and recover it.  In what, I don't know.  Don't hate, but I really don't want a white slipcovered sofa.  Even if you can wash it, it just isn't me.  I am thinking something tweedy or velvet.... the sofa upstairs has great lines and if it didn't have some fading and a few holes from a certain beloved puppy chewing on a knife on the sofa (a very, very long time ago,) then it would be perfect, color and all.  So, if any of you have a non white sofa, please link to it in the comments!  I would love to check it out!!

We also hung up a piece of really chippy picture rail and I ordered some hooks.  Now, I can't decide if I want the frames empty or not.... hmmm.... decisions...

I do love how light the living room is looking with the lighter paint and a few white pieces of furniture.  I want to change the coffee table up  and I still have my green modern-ish chairs.  I thought they sold, but some Craigslist people no- showed.  I also changed out the black shade to a new design of mine that I made the other night.  See... even if I haven't been blogging, I have been busy!

And, I relocated the silhouettes upstairs and the Mr. even commented that he loved them on the wall color upstairs.  Okay, enough about me, how have YOU been?

Me Time

Hello all!  It has been a bit since I blogged.  I caught the bambino's cold and I truly didn't have time for it.  So, when I wasn't painting I was having a little me time.  As much as I can have with a sick 3 year old *wink* I clipped peonies every day and I have little bunches all over the house.  I painted a table here that needed it and redecorated a powder room that probably didn't need it.  And, most importantly, I finished this:

Yes, all it needs is a pressing and a framing.  I went a little out on my own with some different color choices.  And, my stitches aren't as nice as the original.  I am pretty proud of it since it was a first try embroidering... up until now all I have done was little practice stitches and a little sign for our camper.  I have seriously thought about carrying it around with me and pulling it out at any given moment to show it off *wink*  And, here is a warning to friends... you should probably expect something embroidered in the near future.  I am already deciding what to work on next.

Okay, I will be back soon with some photos of home projects.  I have started quite a few small ones lately. Right now, I need to get to the shoppe and paint something *pink* for a sweet nursery.

Just For Me

Hello Everyone!  We have had some rainy weather here in Tennessee lately.  So I have taken advantage of the inside time today to work on some things just for me.  I haven't painted anything for us in so long.  So, I woke up early and started painting these chairs:

I got three primed and painted by the time baby hughes' nap was over.  You may remember me asking you to help me beg Mr. Hughes to keep these beauties.  He caved (those were his words!)  I am just waiting on some fabric swatches to get here so we can recover these babies.

And, you may remember me asking your opinion on me tackling embroidery and some pointers.  Last night, I pulled out some linen and some floss and got started following some great online tutorials that I found here.

By no means is it perfect, but this is my first try.  Already my lazy daisy stitches are less lazy.  So I am going to practice, practice, practice over the next few days and then I will order the sampler that I have been obsessing over.  If any of you have any tips for a beginner, please feel free to share.  And if any of you are beginners as well, I would love to know what you are working on.  I really like it.... it is quite relaxing, but not mind numbing like watching television.  I am going to start a little embroidery project for Hazel tonight too.

And this is something I made just for me a few weeks ago, but I decided to list them on etsy and sell them local as well:

I embellished one of my grain sack totes with a garland of linen flowers with vintage button centers.  It has been hauling all of my stuff along with baby hughes' stuff too this summer.  I plan to use it tomorrow to smuggle some snacks that you can't get at the theatre when we go see Cars 2.  But we will have popcorn, oh yes, you can't go to your very first movie and NOT eat popcorn.

And this random photo... well, it is just for me too.  This is one of my favorite things in our crazy backyard.  Old, moss covered bricks.  Heck, I even like the little mini weeds coming up.

Okay kids, I have done enough just for me... got to pick up this crazy crayon and car strewn living room.
