The Shoppe is Open!

hello all!  So, we opened the shoppe this weekend... Saturday was the first day we opened.  Not everything we envisioned was quite finished, but we opened anyhow... when will it ever really be finished?  In 2 days, it has already changed a bit.  But, it has changed A LOT from the original state it was in... remember the tiny photo?

And, here it is as of Saturday...

(keep in mind you will see rogue hammers and juice cups and trucks in the middle of the floor)

 

We didn't do anything to the exterior... it is a old building, but has been updated with vinyl siding and shutters

We did paint the door black and add some little decorative touches.  I am wanting to add a cute decal with our hours and maybe a light under this little portico.

Mr. Hughes put together some really cool framed heraldry prints from the late 1800s.

A month or so ago, we found a paper roller at a great price... they can be so expensive.  We snatched it up and I am so glad we did.  I made some cupcakes (golden with salted caramel icing) to share with our very first guests.

I painted the walls greyish blue... it was a pleasant surprise.  On the swatch card, it didn't look blue at all.   The floors are a slightly darker grey.  Under the carpet there was lovely stained linoleum tile... 2 layers in fact.  Over hardwood.  The way it was attached made it nearly impossible for us to remove the tile by ourselves.  Since we are renting and doing this on a budget, we decided that painting the floor was the best plan.  I am pretty pleased with the result.  It is MUCH better than the yucky tile.

I painted several pieces for the shoppe and for the booths last week.  One of the best parts about the shoppe is that it nearly split in half.  So, I was able to paint custom orders along with all of the furniture for the shoppe and a few pieces for the booths.... seriously, like I had A LOT back there. It is of course, a bit messy and not cute at all.  But, very useful.

Mr. Hughes is going to have some ready made chalk art here and also take custom orders as well.  

I made some more burlap shades and did a few new designs in linen and canvas as well.  

Mr. Hughes built me an awesome counter from a dining table base I painted and an old barn door.  He is also going to do me a little design on the chalk area behind the desk.

We also took down the fluorescent light fixtures and replaced them with some great pendants.  

 

I am planning on adding a light fixture to the pendant shades and a few burlap shades once my lamp parts get here.

We hung up a little piece of fencing to display the flower pins.

Mr Hughes found that great ledger and typewriter.  The little red truck is baby hughes'... not for sale!

Mr. Hughes came up with this design when he purchased a lot of vintage cameras... we have all kinds.

So that is what we were able to get photos of the other day.  We still have more to take and a few more things to finish.  We have a photo booth planned with a vintage Land camera... the photos are incredible.    The Mr. also hung up a bunch more stuff on the walls today and I sorted and priced some more vintage things.  We are planning on putting out a bit of Christmas next week.

This was just our opening.... we plan to have a Grand Opening and ribbon cutting in the future.  It has been exhausting at times, but we had so much fun putting it together.

Bloggy Tour: Rebecca's on Main Street

Hello all! How is October treating you?  Great, I hope! 

 Today I want to share one of my very favorite area shops, Rebecca's Furniture and Design.  Rebecca's has great furniture and accessories... new and custom with a vintage feel.  Beautiful finishes and great upholstered pieces... great farmhouse tables and lighting.

She carries the full line of Dash and Albert rugs (which I adore... and one day will maybe install the runner on the stairs that we bought over a year ago!)

She also has Pine Cone Hill Bedding (ladies... my duvet is white with a tiny ruffle border and is so, so soft!)

Rainy Day Shopping

Ladies and Gentleman!  It is WET here.  In case I have never mentioned it or you may have missed it, we live in Tennessee, just outside of Franklin.  And, it is flooding.  Thank goodness the only thing we are suffering from is boredom and a kid that is more hyper than usual due to some steroids to get rid of a crazy, awful rash.  But, it is bad out here... I have never seen anything like it.  We couldn't leave without a boat...no joke.... and it is still raining.  Anyho, to take my mind off the rain, I am now sitting around, waiting for my toes to dry (Mr. Hughes can paint toes very well... don't tell him I told you *wink*) and doing a little online shopping. So, I have to ask your honest opinion on this top that I saw in Chattanooga....

I had seen the little girl dresses before and they are precious, but I saw a top like this layered over a long sleeve white tee and paired with some jeans...

I think it is cute, but is it TOO cute?   I love Amy Butler fabric.... I guess I am wondering if it will make me look pregnant.  Any of you ladies have a top like this.... do you like it or do you get constantly get told how cute you look and whether it is a boy or a girl. Oh, and the top was found here.

On a serious note again, please pray for all of these people  here in Tennessee that aren't enjoying a pedicure and online shopping.  It is nasty stuff and people are losing homes... and worse yet, loved ones.  If you live in this area and you are reading this, please let me know that you are okay.

A wishful longing and a solution

Have you ever really wanted something?  You sit there and daydream and plan for something that may never come to fruition?  Well, I am a dreamer... I get really caught up and excited in the smallest things.  For instance, I have always wanted to own my own shop.  I even know what gift wrap I would choose for it.  I have been driving by this little old run down building where I live for ages.  A little side info on where I live.... there is no "downtown."  No square, no real historical character.  But, there is something about this building that has always had me thinking.  Never mind the shape it is in or the fact that it has maybe 2 parking spaces.  I just see what it could be.  Do you see it?

It has recently been painted.  So, I have been talking to Mr. Hughes about my vision for years now.  And, here is what my sweetie did:

This is what I see with just a little elbow grease.  This is what it could become.  So where does this all fit in with my life and plans?  Well, this building is still not up for rent, but I have taken a small (very small) baby step and opened my own etsy shop Vintage Junky Style.  I know it may not seem like a big deal for some of you, but I feel like I am really putting myself out there.  I had thought about opening a booth, and that may be an option in the future.  I will be stocking my shop with things that I like and would really have in my home.  So, that is how I am fulfilling my dream.... for now *wink*

P.S.  I don't really have  a Vespa, but we did just buy a Jeep Grand Wagoneer (it is white!)
