Last Hurrah

Mark your calenders for next weekend!  This will be our last event for 2013 and our last sale at the shoppe in Spring Hill.

We have been doing some serious thinking about our future and where we want to be.  A few years ago, we were thinking about moving.  We put it off because it didn't seem like the right time.  Then, we got caught up in our little life here and sort of pushed the thought aside.  But, it was always there and we realized that if we wanted to relocate before the boy started school in 2014, this was the time to do it.

So, we have been visiting places that we may want to live. We haven't made any concrete decisions about where all we know is this is when. So, we decided that this will be our last month in the studio.  We will begin working out of the house again.  It will help us out to not have to pack up a house and a studio when the time comes to move.

We are thinking we will stay in Tennessee and will keep our booth at Winchester Antiques (unless we move super far) and both our etsy shoppes will stay open.

Knitting and Purling

It's official.  I love knitting.  I don't think there was any doubt that I would, but I now have had 2 back to back knitting projects that are finished.  Well, except for blocking, but I get so excited once I cast off, that I just decided to call these finished.

I found the pattern for this one on Purl Bee.  I already had some beautiful yarn on hand so I modified it just a bit with a smaller needle.  This is actually the first scarf I finished for myself.  

This one is one that I just picked some yarn and a stitch and just started.  There is no rhyme or reason to when I switched colors, I would just decide to change when I got tired of one of them.

I used a seed stitch and some super soft organic cotton.  I have some more of the same cotton in different colors and I am holding myself back from casting on so I can do a little stitching.

I do think I need to branch out and do something other than scarves, since they are a little time consuming.  I would love to knit my boy am oatmeal sweater!

I am prepping for a sale at the shoppe July 12 and 13th. I have been painting a lot over the past 2 weeks.  More on that soon~

A little road trip

hello~  since I last blogged the Mr. and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary.  And, since it was on a Monday, we decided to wait to celebrate it until last weekend with a little family road trip to East Tennessee.  I am from Cookeville (which is east of where we are) and have been east before, but never this far.  It was so green and beautiful in the mountains. I think in addition to the beach and the trees in Savannah, the mountains here may be my favorite.

We stayed in Johnson City and took little drives from there.  It may be because it is new and different, but everything looked pretty cool.  We loved the homes in the Tree Streets area and they had a great little Farmer's Market set up near the downtown.

We found this cute little town, Jonesborough (the oldest town in TN) and walked around and had lunch there.

It was picturesque!  Very artsy and quaint. I wish I would have taken more photos, but I was busy taking mental ones.

I am such a nerd when I stay in a hotel that has that little brochure section.  I grabbed a bunch of them and read them on the way home.  This little place has so many festivals and fun stuff to do all year round.

I love little architectural details like these. We headed through Elizabethton and I didn't get any photos there, but it was a cute town too.  Lots of houses with stoops. I want a house with a proper stoop.

Then we went to Bristol after a little break.  They have a great downtown with live music and restaurants.  They had a really cool depot/ train station near this sign too.

On the way to Bristol, we passed a drive-in.  We decided to grab a sandwich instead of going out to eat and watch Monsters U.  Since it didn't get dark until 9, we weren't able to stay and watch the second movie.

It was a great trip!  The mountains were beautiful and it seems like that area would be a great place to live.

Pop Up Sale this Weekend!

So since we like to do things on a whim, we decided to pull out a bunch of stuff from storage and have a Pop up Sale on the shoppe lawn this weekend. There is a LOT of stuff!

A Girlier Army Blanket

I love army blankets!  These thin, wool blankets are perfect for picnics and cuddling up outside on a cold night.  And, they are pretty durable if you keep them out of moths' reach.  I currently have 3 and am always on the lookout for more.  I love the tweedy, masculine look of them, but sometimes you need to feminize something.   The Mr. recently bought me the olive green one and I decided it needed something to adorn it since it didn't have any stripes.

I had been hoarding the last of this Amy Butler fabric (Lacework in Grey, I think.)  I love the doily like shapes of it.  I ironed on an interfacing to give it a little more body as I cut out the lacy shapes.  It made it much easier and didn't fray as I cut it out like paper.  I had thought about hand stitching it into place, but I wanted a little instant gratification and used the machine and roughly followed the outline of the shapes.

Then, I simply washed and dried it (the blanket had previously been washed and dried, so it didn't shrink.)   These blankets are not usually 100% wool and if they are you usually find them already felted.  The lacey designs have an almost quilted look now and the edges curl up just a bit.

 It is too hot now to cuddle up with this blanket, but I think it will be perfect come fall.  And, if I ever tire of the look, I can grab my trusty seam ripper and rip the stitches and the blanket will be just the same.
