And It Stayed

hello.
And Happy Valentine's Day.  I truly thought it was tomorrow.
Thank goodness I bought my boys' presents early.
I'll show you what I got later.  It is good!

So, I know you are sitting on the edge of your seat wanting to know my decision about the mirror.
It stayed.  Oh I couldn't let it go.
Nope. So after a few swishes and swooshes, I found a way to make it work and not rearrange our home. Well, not completely.
Here are a few looks that this area had before....

I call this BBH. Or before baby hughes. Notice all the pretty mercury glass at chubby hand level.

And, more recently at Christmas

So here it is what it looks like

This little area sits across from our dining room.
I had Mr. Hughes hang the mirror (which he did without me nagging... he actually did three things for me without nagging...more on that later)
And I thought about photoshopping or iphotoing the thermostat and the doorbell out... but, hey, I am keeping it real.  Why do builders put these things in really obvious places?

And I just ordered these little prints from little brown pen.
I adore them.... I have a few more on the way.  Don't you think that little white oval frame needs some too.... it looks a little lonely.

So there it is.  I like it. Mr. Hughes likes it.  It is a happy day.

And, since I was foofing and fluffing... well... I may have changed my mantle and took all the bottles and put them on a metal cabinet in the dining room.
So, that means some stuff in the living room had to change too.... but that is another post for another day.

This is going to be a fun week.  Specifically the weekend.
We got some passes from Scarlett to go to the Music Valley Antiques Market
at the State Fairgrounds.  She will be setting up along with some really great dealers.
I will be sure to take lots of photos.
Local gals... are you going to this?

It is February 17-19.
Tennessee State Fairgrounds
625 Smith Ave
Nashville, TN 37203

Well, I will be back soon and show you the other 2 things that the Mr. did without me nagging.

bye for now!

Should I (it) Stay or Should I (it) go?

hello
(said in my best Eeyore voice)
I have something to tell you...
I may have mentioned it a time or thirty.
I.am.sick.of.the.winter.
I know, I know, I should
live in the now and appreciate the outline of the trees
blah blah blah.
Kids, I just am not feeling it anymore.
I am ready for 70ish days and sunny
(and you guys better not find any old blog posts where I am complaining about the heat)

Okay, finished complaining.
I have something to show you
(and if it weren't for this dreary weather, I would have a photo of it in my house... okay, really, I am finished complaining)
I love it.

I have never seen another like it.

I have a thing for mirrors

Especially ones so worn.
But, I don't know if it is *me*
I adore it.  Each and every bit.
But, I am afraid if I keep it that I may have to rearrange/redecorate my whole house.
And I don't know if my marriage would survive.
So, I am trying her on for size.
Maybe she will play well with others.
If not, she will be at one of the booths.
*sniff, sniff*

In other vintage treasure hunting news,
I got some stuff.
Good stuff.
Booth stuff. Etsy Stuff.
Let's leave it at that.
And, let's say that my stack has doubled in size over the weekend.
Which caused some rearranging.
All of which I would be happy to show you if the sun would just come out for a minute.
Oh yeah, and if my house wasn't in shambles due to all the refluffing.
Soon though... very soon... you will see...

bye for now!

Sunday Smushed

I like alliteration.
How was your weekend?
Ours was filled with booth fluffing.
And house foofing.
And other busy busy-ness
And I am smushing it all in this post.
How do you like my sign for my booth at Winchester?

Mr Hughes made it... from a mirror arm from a dresser and a piece of moulding from who knows what.
It was the second try... the first try was a perfect sign... just a bit heavy...
and here are a few of the latest pieces I have finished:

The Claire... love the original hardware

I lined the drawers with vintage maps... Colorado, Illinois, Arkansas, and Missouri if you are wondering.

The Grace.... you know, because of her graceful curves.

Pretty silver leafed knobs

Sheet music lined drawers

The Eliza (sold...sniff, sniff, I get attached) adore her original hardware.

Also, lined with sheet music... I love lined drawers... it is like a special surprise just for you

The Wren Chairs... painted a darker pretty grey

And I love bird fabric

So the booths were fluffed, now I needed to foof the house.  I finally took down all the snowflakes (and the snow finally melted, what do you know.... coincidence?)

This was pretty much Mr. Hughes idea, but I made it happen.
He loves finding these really large dandelions... well, they aren't dandelions,  I can't remember what they are.  But they are super cool and I have had a few for awhile.
Well, wouldn't you know, they look great perched in a vintage flower frog and covered by a dome.

So, I started looking for more glass stuff that I had hanging around and just grouped it all together.

And, some more....

So, a new look for the mantle.  I have been foofing elsewhere too.  But that is for another day.....

And just when you think it was all work, all weekend.... take a look at our fire brigade.
Those are needlefelted owls that I made from a kit that the Mr. got me for Christmas from this shop.
At first, I was thinking... okay... I don't get it.... then I started adding the eyes and beak... and then it was quite fun.  Now, wouldn't you know it, that rascally baby hughes confiscated them soon after they were finished.  And a short time later, they are trained firefighters (and have had more than one nasty accident in their truck.)

And a masterpiece was created. baby hughes is in his choo-choo period.  We asked him what it is.... it is always choo-choo tracks or a choo-choo.
We like to encourage the creativity.
That about wraps up our weekend... we just finished up with popcorn and a movie....
I will be back later with more foofing and a small little copy cat project to show you.

 bye for now!

Transforming our Entry

Today I am joining in on Transformation Thursday at The Shabby Chic Cottage. I have been working on spiffing up our entry on and off for awhile. One morning I woke up and looked at all that white in our entry and decided it needed something. Here is what it looked before:

And here is what it looks like now with a little paint, rearranging and a special something:

I changed up the furniture a little. I had asked your opinion and most everyone agreed that this look was better than the green chest. It will find a new home once we finish our Creativity Space (trying that name on for size!)

Then I got rid of all that white! I painted the back of the front door with some leftover paint from the window box trim in the dining room. And, I used leftover wall paint from the dining room to paint the architectural piece above the door. I think it came off of an old bed. I distressed it a little and Mr. Hughes hung it up for me. Now for that something special....

The fabulous shield shaped frame that I brought home from the last flea market! I left it alone, color wise and just removed the old wood off the back. I went searching through Mr. Hughes' Vintage French catalogues and found a few photos of things I felt everyone should have when they leave: hat, shoes, umbrella, and luggage. I collaged them together and then I added the finishing touch....

It is French for "Until Next Time." I had to look it up... I took 4 years of Spanish! But, everything is better in French, isn't it.
I put it all up with a wide ivory grosgrain ribbon and attached it at the top of the door with flat push pins.

Please remember my giveaway if you haven't signed up for it yet and also put my first party on your calender! Well, I am off to Gina's to see what everyone else has transformed!

Lazy Saturday and opinions needed

It is a very lazy Saturday here at the Hughes home. We have all been sick at some point this week. That's right! Someone brought germies to Baby Hughes' birthday! How thoughtful! Thanks for the lovely gift AND the cold! Oh well, he has been handling it very well considering it caused his very first ear infection. It did get him out of his shots for the time being, so I think he must be pretty pleased. I just got the fabulous symptoms yesterday. So, I am too sick to complete major projects, but not sick enough to stay out of Mr. Hughes' hair about doing some rearranging. We decided that the new vintage chest will be of more use upstairs in our bedroom. So, it left me with a few options downstairs. I could move it back the way it was:

This is how it has looked for a couple of years. This is a vintage stereo cabinet that we gutted the speakers and replaced with the bins that hold scarfs and umbrellas. It also holds our junk box. We don't have a junk drawer, but we do have a box filled with pens, tape, and just junk. I am a little tired of the green, it has always been a little bright. And, it doesn't flow into the dining room. But it is really useful in the entry. Painting it is always an option.
Or should I go with this look:

I like this even if it is a little atypical of me...I am not usually a red person. The table ties in with the color in the dining room. I added the basket for shoes. Mr. Hughes made this his only request: it has to be useful. And, a space to take off your shoes and store them is useful. If this look stays, then I will likely cover the chair with a grain sack. Regardless of what I choose, the painting stays. It is a Mr. Hughes original and it won't look great anywhere else because of the red. Besides, I love it. It is a friendly way to enter our home.

So, dear readers, which do you like better? And why? I really appreciate your opinions.

So, I will wait patiently (yeah right) for your opinion. I guess while I am waiting I will unload the dishwasher. If I am well enough to scoot furniture and blog about it, then I am well enough to do some chores!
