The Day After

It is pretty unlike me to not post a little Christmas tour of our home, but this year felt different.  I kept things pretty simple for me and just put out the most important things that make it Christmas for us.  Things like as many snowflakes as my hands could cut.  I did minimal ornaments on the tree, but left space for all those that we picked up this year and some great ones that my kiddo made me this year.  I found my idea of the perfect lights and made some wrapping paper that made me smile. The Mr made me a couple of wreaths from free trimmings that I will hate to trash.  We made a few kinds of cookies over the month and made a few fun crafty things.  We had visits with family and lots of snuggly days.

We are hoping this will be the last Christmas in this home which is partly why I kept things so simple.  Soon, I will not only be packing up ornaments and stockings, but other stuff to get this place ready to go on the market.  It is getting ready to be pretty busy and hectic around here, so a simple Christmas is just what we needed.

Hope all of your holidays were merry and cheerful!

*blink*

hello all!  I am sitting here next to my big Preschooler wondering how this happened... or how did it happen so fast?  Four years ago at this time, this little guy was kicking up storm in my belly and causing my feet to swell to epic proportions.  And, today I dropped him off for his first day of Preschool.  They do a summer session at his school and I thought it would be nice to get him involved before Fall.

He, of course, had a great time.  He jumped out of the car like he didn't have parents.  And, of course, I cried a little.  The Mr. took me out for a little coffee date after we left our boy there, so that was nice *smiles*  I guess it gets easier each day, but I really missed him today.  I mean, even when he is testing my patience, I still really love being with him.  And, it was SO quiet!

So, do tell mommas of boys... what do your boys wear on their feet when they wear shorts?  Flip flops are a no no at school and I think this looks a little funny.... is it the socks?  He was NOT happy about wearing socks and sneakers today.  Or is it my thinking that shorts have to be worn with flip flops?

Tomorrow we are off to treasure hunt!  We are leaving early and seeing where the road takes us!  Be back soon with some new finds and some news.... Vintage Junky news...  For now, though, I think I will take an extra dose of snuggles.

bye for now~

My Last Day

Hello all.
Today is it.  My last day of work.
I have been at the same job for 6 years.
Next week I start my new job with my new boss... he is a talker.  And cute.
And blondes aren't usually my type.
*wink*
Still excited.scared.nervous.happy.

Last week I got a surprise.  Mr. Hughes brought home a bunch of furniture for me to paint and a surprise.
He called it my Happy Last Day of Work Present (a week early.)
You may remember me lusting after a certain item in this post.
Well, I think it looks much, much better in my dining room.

Don't you think?  And you also must think that I am spoiled.  And that Mr. Hughes is dreamy and considerate.  And I would have to agree with all those things.
You should also know that our anniversary is in a few weeks and this is for that too.
So I am not totally spoiled.  Just like 75%

I have been wanting a Swedish clock for awhile (I am not sure if this is considered a "Mora)
This one is from 1790 and has the maker's signature on the back ... Hermann Hoffstred along with a piece of paper from a Stockholm newspaper.
It doesn't work... just stands there and looks pretty.
And what a great looking face!  I haven't seen one on the few Swedish Clocks that I have seen.

Okay kids... I am out of here to go to my last few hours of paid labor!

bye for now!

Happy

Hello there!
As I sit on our back deck, enjoying this simply gorgeous night, waiting on baby hughes to wake up from a late nap and a grilled meal from Mr. Hughes..... well, I can't think of a single thing to complain about.  And, I don't ever get really mushy or philosophical on this blog, but I really think it is the simple stuff that makes me happy.

Like this sweet chalkboard from my even sweeter friend Tara
I have big plans for this baby, but for now, it is in my kitchen with a quote from my theme song of late

I love the chorus!  And just the all around feel goodness of it.
Mr Hughes kindly pointed out that it should read "I'm"
instead of "I am."  So, I changed it.... but didn't think to take a photo. Heck, that bloomless primrose in the pretty aqua-y pot even makes me happy.

You know what else makes me happy?  This dish rack.  Silly, I know.  You know what is even sillier.... our dishwasher broke last week, and while I know it will get fixed, my first thought was, well, that justifies a turquoise-y vintage dish rack purchase, right?
And, you know what else?  I don't even mind doing those dishes.  Nope, in fact, I dare say I enjoy it.... mainly because for some strange reason the kitchen is staying much cleaner.  And, guess what... the dishes are cleaner too.
(Ask me later if I am still liking it once I have to clean all the dishes from our little grill out tonight.)

And this is one of my favorite vintage finds as of late...
this sweet step stool.
You see, my baby hughes is rocking this potty training thing, so I see those sweet little feet up there several times a day, washing his hands, pretending one of my beloved ironstone soap dishes is a boat.
Good thing it is pretty tough and already has a big chip out of it!

And I realize that I just showed you a bunch of "things" that make me happy.
And vintage stuff does.  But, that could be any old step stool from anywhere, and the swelling in my heart would be the same when I hear.... " wash the hands....dry, dry, dry."
It is the simple little things that I enjoy.
I enjoy being on the deck barefoot in ratty, paint splattered clothes
I enjoy the floors I mopped yesterday.
I enjoy our party lights that are still going after 2 years.
I enjoy my family
I enjoy my life.
Especially once I get that steak on my plate (sorry cows!)

Bye for now!

My Best Decision

Take one fresh and tender kiss

Add one stolen night of bliss

One girl,

one boy

Some grief,

some joy

Memories are made of this
Don't forget a small moonbeam

Fold in lightly with a dream

Your lips and mine
Two sips of wine
Memories are made of this

Then add the wedding bells

One house where lovers dwell

Three little kids for flavor

Stir carefully through the days
See how the flavor stays
These are the dreams you will savor

With His blessings from above

Serve it generously with love
One man, one wife

One love through life
Memories are made of this
Memories are made of this

still my best decision ever...
Happy 4th Anniversary Mr. Hughes

Our First Dance song sung not by Dean Martin, but by Mr. Johnny Cash.

and to level out the mush factor.... a very happy anniversary to a Mr. OJ Simpson and the California Highway Patrol... this was the night of OJ's wild ride
