Friday Favorites

I thought I would do a little Friday Favorites of some recent handmade purchases that I adore.  We went to a couple of pop up shops in New York and went to the Porter Flea in Nashville last weekend.  Plus, I snuck in a new tote purchase before we left for our trip... wink!

Here is the tote that I decided that I needed before we left.  I wanted something light that I could put snacks for the boy and little souvenirs in and not have a bunch of bags while we were walking.  It is perfect!

We were walking in Central Park when I saw this artist with a booth set up.  I loved her work!  This was my favorite though.  I am planning on getting another of her block prints soon.

After a trip or two to a flea market and little gifts that we bought, I needed an additional carry on tote.  We found a group of pop up shops in Grand Central Terminal on one of our last days there.  I bought this roomy and cute tote and a mug.

At the same pop up shops, we found this company.  This isn't the shirt my little man chose.... his is orange, long sleeved with a subway car....   I am sure this one would have been his second choice though.

Last weekend, we finally made it to Porter Flea.  Every other time, we ran into a reason we couldn't go.   I am so glad we made it this time.  I must have a thing for block and lino prints.  I bought a print (not the above one... mine has a globe on it) from this seller.  It was so hard to choose.  I also purchased a small one of three owls.  I think I need this tree house too though.

This shirt was a purchase by the Mr.  This shop had great prints as well.  This may be one of those shirts I steal from time to time...

I bought a sweet little boy silhouette ornament from this seller, but she had so many cute pieces like this camper.  I also love her diamond stud earrings!

When I saw that this seller was going to be there, I was super excited about going and snagging some beautiful hand dyed yarn in this spanish moss color.  It seems that everyone else beat me to it.... she was almost completely sold out when I got to her booth.  I can't wait for her to restock it!

I have almost reached a stopping point on the snowflakes this year, so hopefully I can share some Christmas photos next week.  Have a great weekend!

Friday Faves!

Happy Friday!  It has been so long since I have done a Friday Favorites and I was going through my etsy and Pinterest feed and found so many lovely things to share.  Perhaps they will make your wish list too!

I love butterflies and moths and the colors and composition is so pretty on this print.  This artist also has a print that my little man loves! Found here

My husband does the cooking.  I know, I am a lucky lady.  Just the other day, he mentioned that we don't have a plate specifically for resting a spoon or a spatula on.  I just happened across this sweet dish and think it is perfect! Found here

I rarely buy calenders anymore since I have one on my phone.  And my computer.  And every year or so I will buy a cute planner that doesn't get used.  This one though is pure art! Found here

This shop sells the sweetest, simple little houses.  So charming! Found here

I have found that I start to love what my little guy loves.  And he loves what he calls train lanterns and has a little collection.  While this shirt isn't in his size, I think I may have to get one for myself.  Found here

I have been watching the evolution of this woodcut for awhile and was so excited to see the beautiful colors they chose for it.  I would love to get a print for our future home. Found here

Here is another piece of art that I would love to have- an original hand pulled stump print!  So beautiful! Found here

And, here is something I have had on my wish list for so long!  I just need to see if I trust my optometrist with changing out the lenses in a pair of these wood sunnies! Found here

We had a fun Halloween!  I just realized that I haven't shared the little man's costume.  The Mr. took all the photos, so I will have to get those from him.  Hope you have a wonderfully fall weekend!

Christmas at the Shoppe

Hello there!  We did some decorating at the shoppe this week to get ready for the holidays.  We obviously like the vintage and handmade, so that is what we used...

like vintage skates on the front door....

and a whole bunch of vintage inside!

We picked up these vintage pants stretchers ages ago because we liked them.  We had no idea how we were going to use them.  The Mr played around with them the other day and made a HUGE snowflake with a banner.

I am having a hard time saying goodbye to these sweet little fawns

I have the fence awnings on 2 windows, so on a whim I decided to wrap a frame in fairy lights for a little bit of whimsy.

The Santa masks were handpainted by the Mr and were inspired by one that his dad had when he was little.

I knew I had more ornaments than branches so I attempted to chalk a tree... then I called in the pro and then I simply placed carpet tacks to display some of our favorites.

I adore the colors and shape of vintage ornaments!  They really don't make them like they used to...

This year we decided to create our own recycled gift wrap line.  The Mr hand lettered some designs and hand stamped them on some paper.

He also carved some blocks to create a few festive cards.

We got our aluminum tree early last spring and the little man and I were super excited to put it up finally!

It is hard to choose favorites, but this sweet little snowman is perfect!

I always seem to have extra tissue paper decorations around from various things, so I used some with paper snowflakes, of course.

We used a vintage quilt with a pleasing patchwork design as a tree skirt.  The Mr. designed a little Vintage Junky christmas logo for my bags and gift boxes and snowflake bags.

and they look pretty sweet all nestled inside.

So, now that the shoppe is all ready for Christmas it is time to go get the house ready this week.

bye for now~

New Creations

Hello everyone!  I am taking a break from Train Tuesday to show you what I made the other day when I was taking a break from the birthday party and Hazel projects.

I have made these burlap shades before, but I tweaked the design ever so slightly and I love the look even more... especially when it is on a scallop-y curve-y frame.  This one was made from a coffee sack instead of just burlap yardage.

I love the glowy texture that it has when it is  a lit up!  Then, I started playing around with scraps and came up with a new design.

This is more of a shade slipcover where the burlap one is hand sewn to the frame.  I make tweak this one still.  I love exposed seams and contrasting threads... it makes it look a little more deconstructed and not so sweet.

It looks pretty lit up too (if I do say so myself!)  I think I am going to use these shades on some lamps that Mr. Hughes and I are going to make..... just waiting on some lamp parts.

And, while I had out the sewing machine, I played around with some more scraps and made some new flower pins.  I raided my vintage button stash to give this batch a really different look than the other ones I have created.

This one is a sneak peak at some of the fabric I used for a Hazel project.  I think I will call this one a Railroad bloom... since I have trains on the brain right now.  The new blooms will be in my etsy shop soon and also in the booths as well.  Mr. Hughes is delivering some along with a piece of furniture to The Roost today.  Okay, back to the Island of Sodor... we have a massive setup in the living room right now.... like I moved the furniture massive.  I will be back soon to show you what happens when I react to a wild hair at 6:15 am.

bye for now!
