Village Antiques in Nolensville

Hello all!  I meant to post photos of our new space at The Village Antiques in Nolensville right after we set up, but boy was I tired... then I got busy.... then I started a book.  I mentioned to the Mr. that I started a new series and his words were.... oh, great.  So, thanks Sara (and I am sure the Mr. thanks you as well!)  We set up quickly on Tuesday and had to run a few errands (and squeeze in a little lunch date!) before we went to go get the hyena from Preschool.  So, it was a fun, but HOT day!

So here are a few photos of the new space:

That big table was quite a bit of fun getting in there!  The Mr. has been quite busy with his chalkboards, so I was pretty happy that he whipped up one for me late the night before we set up the booth.  Being his wife has its perks!  We kept the booth pretty simple and I put some doilies that I had dyed to good use.  The Mr. was able to get some lighting ready... it always sells pretty fast.  I guess I am not the only one with a little weakness for lamps *smiles*

So, there is our new space.  If you are in the area and would like to visit, the address is:

7289 Nolensville Rd~ Nolensville, Tennessee 37135
Tuesday- Saturday 10-6
Sunday 1-6

Nolensville is such a charming little town, so be sure to make a day of it!

Well, I think I can squeeze in a chapter while I finish my tea and before I get ready for a day at the shoppe!

Bye for now~

Plate Piled High

Happy Friday all!!  Hope you have had a lovely week!  Thanks so much for the well wishes on baby hughes' 1st day of Preschool.  He had a fabulous day and said he missed me.... thank goodness!!

Sometimes, especially when I am at my busiest, I just give into the chaos and pile more on my plate.  This time? I decided to open a booth next week in Nolensville at The Village Antiques.  The owner contacted me a while back and asked me to join her there and I am excited to be in Nolensville!  It is such a charming little place that has so many fun places to shop.  So, this weekend, I am running around trying to get everything pulled together and priced for our opening on Tuesday.  Plus, yesterday, I got a wild hair in the middle of that to tear the shoppe apart and redo it to make room for some great finds on our hunting trip this week.  And... in the middle of that, I need to go visit my Winchester booth and take some furniture there... good thing I had some coffee this morning!  So, I am a little busy.  I like being busy though.

Alright, my relief came in and is taking my place in the shoppe so I can run some errands and get to Franklin! I will be back next week with new booth photos... that is just a sneak peek at the top. Have a lovely weekend!!!

bye for now~

Open for Business at The Roost + a Giveaway

Well ladies and a few gentleman, Vintage Junky is open for business!  My tiny little booth in The Roost is jammed full of stuff!  We crammed my mom's SUV full. And, unbelievably, I only came home with one small box of stuff that didn't fit.  We worked for a few hours to get everything just right.  I actually made sales of a few cuckoo clocks while I was unpacking.  Everything went pretty smoothly, with the exception of a few things... I broke another vendor's vase (I paid for it) a light bulb fell out and smashed on the floor, and Mr. Hughes had a swell time trying to get the shelf out of the top of the closet the booth is in.  We came prepared with a plan and a toolbox and everything priced beforehand.  So, without further ado... here is my booth!

I told you it was tiny.... and FULL!  Mr. Hughes made my sign.

My little display cabinet has already sold :(  I really loved it! Oh well, I can't keep it all...

This little medicine cabinet sold as well... this is something that I got a lot of response from when I made one for our laundry room, so I decided to make one for the booth.  And, in the background, the Jacqueline (named after my mom) 3 drawer chest that I worked on... I love the way it turned out.  I wish I had a photo of it by itself.

A Louis  (the Lulu!) chair with some stenciled pillows

The booth needed some light so I covered a naked lampshade with a coffee sack slipcover shade.

Some vintage flower pins

This is one of the items that I have been wanting to do for awhile.  Mr. Hughes helped, of course.  The little shield shapes have pegs that are made out of vintage organ pulls.  I love them!  I need to make some for myself and for my etsy shop.  Oh, and the background is blown up pages from a 1920s French Dry Goods Catalog.

These candles make the booth smell so yummy and they are wrapped in reproduction vintage French candle labels.

I love top hats and they made the perfect display for my new screen printed towels.  I am glad that the screen I had burned about 6 months ago is finally being used!

A few of the vintage items in the booth

We found a couple of concession trays from a ballpark that make excellent shelves.

And a cute little magnet board with button magnets

And, here I am afterwards... sweaty, tired, and very excited!

That was Friday.  Then, on Saturday I went to meet with a lady who owns a shop in downtown Franklin and she is going to carry some of my pillows and bags!  So, a very exciting weekend for me.

I want to thank you all for all your support of this blog and my little shop dreams.  So, to thank you, I would like to do a little giveaway this week...

This vintage grain sack bag with a silhouette of a lady and a vintage flower pin

A cuckoo clock flour sack towel
and

A little notebook covered with vintage calling cards

All of these items will be added to my etsy shop very soon, but I thought a chance to win them before they are listed would be fun!

So, here is what you can do to win

  1. Leave me a comment on this post
  2. If you are a follower, be sure you let me know and I will enter you twice.
  3. If you want to blog or tweet about it, let me know about that too and I will add you an extra time for each one.

The BEST Mother's Day Present

I hope you Mommies had a great Mother's Day.  I did!  I got a few great presents... the necklace that I loved from the Bloomin' Garden show and... (no, I am not pregnant!)  this....

Mr. Hughes went to The Roost in Nolensville to get my present for Mother's Day, a necklace that he remembered that I had liked.  Well, while he was there, he also got me my first booth space!!!!!  Can you tell how excited I am?!?  I was seriously surprised, and it takes alot to surprise me... I have a knack for guessing presents.  Some of you may remember this post when I took a little leap and opened my etsy shop.  Well, this is the next leap... again, a small one.  This booth is small, with room for a piece of furniture and some small stuff.  But, I am kind of glad that it is small, so I can make an impact in a small area rather than be all spread out... it will be manageable.  This means that I can get some larger pieces that I would love to offer in my etsy shop, but can't due to shipping.  And, more importantly, it means I get to decorate... it is like having an extra room in the house!  Plus, I really like the ladies that own The Roost and Three French Hens...it is always nice to work with people you like!

I haven't been there since he gave me the video, but it is all I can do not to call in sick to my real job so I can go over there and take measurements and make plans for the space.  So, all of you booth owners out there, I am open to any wisdom you would like to bestow upon me.  And, I am hoping that if you are local you will come out to see it once it is open... hopefully by the first week in June.

Thanks all of you... without your encouragement and friendship I know I would not have made it this far.  And, a special thanks to Monica and Rachel who gave me an award this past week.  And, of course,  an extra special thanks to Mr. Hughes and baby hughes who put up with my crazy ideas and feed them instead of squashing them... Mr. Hughes at least... I think baby hughes just enjoys being along for the ride...and getting some ice cream!

Some Exciting News!

For me at least!  My Bemis grain sack pillows have been picked up by a semi- local shop (it is in Nolensville...about 40 minutes from me.)  Jane Zavala  is opening up a shop called Roses and Rustics for a sale each month, kind of like a barn sale, but not in a barn but just as good!  And, she decided to try a few of these pillows. This is an honor since this sweet lady has an incredible eye. I still have them available in my etsy shop if you don't live near here, but if you do, go check out her beautiful place.  There are a few other cute antique stores over there too like Three French Hens and The Roost that I have already bragged about, most recently here. The sale is May 6th, 7th, and 8th in Historic Nolensville... be sure to go... it will definitely be worth it!

Weekend treasures

First of all, every weekend is a treasure to me.    Two whole days uninterrupted by work that I get to spend with Baby and Mr. Hughes,  so, so wonderful.  Many weekends, we go treasure hunting at least one day.  Baby Hughes is surprisingly good and he seems to like it.  As long as he finds a couple of fans or air conditioners that blow in his face, he is happy.  These times are going to come to an end soon, and then the Mr. and I will have to take turns at the treasure hunting.  This suits Mr. Hughes just fine as I am selfish and have no patience for the paper hunting that he does, ephemera he calls it!  I am quick when I go through a store and this irks him.  We just have different hunting styles.  Anyhow, back to this past weekend.  On Saturday, we went to Bellevue and continued on to Dickson.  And, I was disappointed.  I felt as if we wasted a whole day.  I only found a few things.  Then, after we went to church on Sunday, we got the itch again.  We went to Nolensville and found a whole load of stuff!  We went to Three French Hens and their sister store The Roost.  They had recently changed out many booths and they were full of Vintage Junky style!
Here are some goodies!
They had a black one just like this!  I am kicking myself for not getting it!

Another thing I am kicking myself for not snatching!  I now have the perfect spot and idea for this treasure!

mmmmm! Lovely in all its rusty splendor!

Can't you just see this with an oilcloth or even burlap seat?  Perhaps with a number tied to it?

Why didn't I get this?!?

Cast iron + stone mushrooms

Lovely window... wait to you see what is in the booth behind the window!!

The best displays!  Look at those hydrangeas!

FABULOUS!!!  Child's swing with a sweet birdy and moss balls!

Look at all the lovelies!

Such a great idea!
Then, we headed on down the road to an antique store in an old church (no, not a cool old church,  think 1970s.) But, they have some incredible finds and are adding many more vintage treasures all the time.  I, unfortunately can't remember the name... I refer to it as the old church on the hill.
Would be beautiful painted white and rusty.  Or how about black?

And, this was where the marble mantle died... struck my funny bone!!
We finished up there.  I graciously let Mr. Hughes look at the book room without breathing down his neck or pacing back and forth.  Baby Hughes and I went out to the car and had lunch and listened to music.  I hope to go back really soon, maybe even this weekend.  And, I have a perfectly good reason.  Silly mommy left Baby Hughes' sippy cup (one of his favorites) and the sweet lady has it saved back for me to go pick up... I think he really NEEDS it soon.  Very soon!  And Mommy may accidentally bring back that chippy finial and a black milk jug.
I hope to post photos of all the treasures that did find a home with us later today!
