Sometimes, the antiquing stars align

Hello~  Hope you all had a lovely weekend! My boys took me on a little treasure hunting trip to some places we haven't been in awhile.  And wouldn't you know, all the things I had been looking for were found!  I don't go hunting solely for me much anymore with a booth and etsy shoppe to fill, but yesterday, I did!  I had been searching for this exact picnic basket.  I think I love it because it reminds me of stripy tweed suitcases.  I hadn't been able to locate one locally and neither had the Mr.  Yesterday   I found 3! (I only bought one... I am not that big of a hoarder yet!)  I love shopping on etsy so much, but there is something about finding it in person that is so rewarding.  And, I have been wanting this exact size globe with pretty, saturated color for awhile and the Mr.  spotted one after I passed up one that was twice as much.  The unrusted sifter and the pretty yellow botanical were bonus finds.  There is something that I don't love about the frame on it.... the gold is too new looking, so there may be some changing to it.  I also found a suitcase for my stack that I  was sure was going to fit, but it didn't.  So, I am going to have to make some hard choices here in the next few days.

Today I have big plans of working on client pieces and then coming back here to play some baseball with my boy and maybe pick some flowers.

Music Valley Antique Show

Hello there!  Happy Monday!  I have loads of things lined up to show you if I could just get something completed... I am thinking this is the week (that I make a Robin Hood fox costume.)  Anyhow, I am about to make some plans for you local folks...this weekend there is the Music Valley & Tailgate Antiques Show.  These shows always have absolutely swoon worthy antiques.   I am partial to old signs and the Spring show did not disappoint.  In the Spring, there were also plenty of vendors with great industrial wares (I am also partial to industrial looking baskets and storage.)

And, if you want to go to this show, I can get you free tickets... all you have to do is go to City Farmhouse and tell them Vintage Junky sent you and they will give you free passes... it pays to know me, huh?  *chuckles*

Okay, I will be back soon to show you some things that are finished.... well, they aren't right now but they will be very, very soon. Pinky promise.

A Vintagey Outdoor Table

Hello there!

While watering my plants the other day, I remembered last year at this time I had tons of hydrangeas... enough to steal quite a few.... and this year none.  I remembered that I had done a guest post for Heather last year around this time using those same abundant hydrangeas, so I thought I would share that with you in case some of you didn't see it last year... 

Since it is so close to Father's Day, I wanted to do a little entertaining post.  Who says that dads don't care about nice looking surroundings?  My Mr. Hughes loves vintage finds and likes when I fluff the house. So, I designed a table and a menu with things I know he would like.  And, with the exception of a few new finds, everything was found around our home, so this was a very thrifty project.  You could easily change a few things to make this party your own, be it a Father's Day Cookout or a nice little Garden Tea.

This gives you an overall view of the table... I set up outdoors because it has a very garden look to it.

I made some moss "chargers" by forming some sheet moss into a tray and putting some pressure on it, then I just lifted it out of the tray and placed it on the table. It stayed together quite nicely.  

I added some of my vintage ironstone plates... if you don't have any ironstone, check your local Goodwill for some vintage restaurantware  or just use some of your own plates.  I added a length of vintage black and white ribbon to play off of the little oval dishes that hold the silverware.

Which is vintage as well.... some people think it is a little yucky to eat with tarnished flatware, so you may want to have backups for the less adventurous guests.

I stenciled some vintage napkins that had a handkerchief look to them with some numbers because I am a little crazy about numbers.  Then I tied a vintage pocket watch face to them, creating a ring.  Embellish it with a pheasant feather and you have a very masculine table setting.

I found these great birch covered planters (my new splurge) at Scarlett Scales.  I only say splurge because they were the one purchase I made for this... they were quite affordable. I love them and already have another party coming up that I will use them for.  The little glass jars are great... they have a crown on them.  I just filled them with sand and added a candle.

The hydrangeas were from our garden.  If your Mr. isn't the flowery type, it would be great to fill these planters with herbs... fragrant and pretty.

I think I may do a version of this again for this weekend for some friends we are having over.  If only I had those hydrangeas!!

And, since I pulled this from the vault, it looks like my siggy isn't working.  Oh well... off to get some pieces finished before the hyena wakes up.

Recap of the Music Valley Antiques Show

Hello! How are you?

I have been a wee bit of a blog slacker lately.  

I finished another book.  And I really can only ignore and neglect my family in so many ways!

I thought I would show you some of the photos from the Music Valley Antiques Show.

You know, the one where poor me came home empty handed.

There were tons of great items, especially signs, but they were just out of our price range.

Lots of eye candy though...

Like this train schedule board.... I think I may try to make one of these for my little train lover... with chalkboard paint.

 

There were also a lot of carnival type items, like this old game.

We were really drawn to all the signs... there were so many great ones!

 

I love this display of catcher's masks.  Power in numbers!

Of course I adored this vintage dress form.

 

This was one of my very favorite signs... I loved it!  It really deserved to go home with me!

I also really loved this rack... I would love to tear out our pantry and put all our food on this... of course then I would have to only buy things in pretty packaging...

Now, I don't like to talk $$$$ very much, but to just give you an idea of why we didn't take anything home...

this little sign... probably an 8x 14.... well, my dears, it was $695.

Yep.  I didn't forget a decimal after that 9 either.

I am sure it is a very famous sign.

 

Mr. Hughes oohhed and ahhed over these big barrels... he wanted to use them as rain barrels for our garden.

And we both loved this double birdcage.

So I am going to get my act together and actually post this week.... maybe a few furniture pieces and I have missed doing my Friday's Favorites the past couple of weeks.

Latest Finds and Projects

Hello all!  

How are you?

I am fine... tired of all this grey, wet weather.

Spring, where are you?

That groundhog better not see his shadow... not that I condone animal cruelty....

but, he better make Spring come 6 weeks early!

So I realized that I haven't shown some of my latest finds and gifts.

This was under... or beside... the Christmas tree.

She is a repro, but Mr. Hughes vintaged her up for me.

He designed and added the Acme logo and her little necklace.

I love her *smiles*

I think by now I have stressed my love of letterpress.

Mr. Hughes found this vintage small letterpress type machine that will stamp small cards once it is tweaked.

But, for now, it just looks swell on top of Bubba.

And these aren't really new, but they are all together along the bar... just a few things I have been doing to shake up the house a bit... to keep it spicy and exciting *wink*

This was one of my favorite flea market finds this year.... it made me give up my favorite, favorite scale.

A double scale with  ironstone type plates.... love!

And, I was so excited to hear that the flea will be open in 2011 here!

Just last week I found this little gem... baby hughes says it is his *click click*

I am thinking another collection is brewing.

Along with a luggage collection... Mr. Hughes found me a great one for my stack.

I will show you once I have a few more.

I worked on a few pieces to take out to the booths the other day....

I adore this piece... I always think about keeping each and every piece I finish... it always crosses my mind of how I can rearrange everything to make something work.

This piece though, well, I love it!  It would be perfect for baby hughes' big boy room... but he isn't a big boy yet... nope.... no matter what the new haircut says *sniff sniff*

So, I took it out to the booth... someone better take it home before I change my mind.... Mr. Hughes wouldn't want to haul it back... trust me... it isn't a light load

Vintage Junky at Winchester Antiques

We kicked off 2011 by opening the new Vintage Junky Booth at Winchester Antiques in Franklin.  On New Year's Eve I went to paint the booth from lime green to my *signature blue*

Then the next morning after a long night of prep work Mr. Hughes and I hauled a trailer full of stuff to Franklin.  And spent most of the afternoon foofing.

So here it is:

Here are the two chests... the Hannah and the Ashley.

I love the Ashley... I painted her a pretty grey (I know, I know I paint everything a pretty grey, but it is different from the other pretty greys!)

I love the tilting mirror.  Oh, and I named her after my beautiful sister... the prettiest girl I have met!

A sweet chair with one of my favorite ruffled grey grain sack pillows (more will be in my etsy shop soon.)

These lamps are incredible... one of my favorite finds.  Mr. Hughes rewired them and they look great with the bare bulbs (if I do say so myself!)

These will also be listed in my etsy shop soon.... shield shaped coat hooks made from organ pulls.

This piece was built in the booth... worked out great!   I didn't have to have Mr. Hughes make any storage pieces for the booth.

This was the other piece that came with the booth.  It had some green fabric in the back of it that just didn't go, so I took it down and lined the back of the shelf with a drop cloth.

And, one of my favorite parts of the booth... it has this extra little tiny room attached... it reminds me of my little booth at the Roost... I like the impact you can put in a tiny spot.

This wall is all Mr. Hughes.... he painted the herb plaques and found the windows and painted them too.

He is wonderful... what can I say?

Then he also donated these botanicals from his very, very large paper stash.

He has a bit of a problem. 

But they were perfect  clothesline style across some shutters (that were already there... I just painted them a light grey)

We hope to get a a sign ready soon.... Mr. Hughes has a really awesome made... but he thinks it may be to heavy
