Thinking Out Loud

I have so much stuff going through my mind right now.  Like, on the way to work, I decided that all of David Gray's songs have that crazy euphoric feeling of just falling in love... even the sadder ones.  He bottles up that great feeling and belts it out.  Love him!  I also love them though....

Very different, no?
And, I have been thinking about style and myself and how I really don't know exactly where I fit in.  I know what I like, but I like vastly different things. Is this a midlife design crisis?  I hope this isn't my midlife... I am only 31 and I have plans to either be a really sweet old grandma gardener or plans to be a really
mischievous one that says inappropriate things.

Okay here is a few examples of what I am talking about:

Part of me is this... classic, neutral, still stylish.
And, the other part of me is more like this:

Bright, fun... pair with some vintage jeans and a cute sandal.

And it obviously doesn't stop there...

This living room is perfection.... but, so is this one

  Found Here
So fabulously vintage.  Both of them. And, here is one that I have adored for quite some time...

here are a few others from someone who has it right: Lauren at Pure Style Home
She graciously let me borrow some photos...

I am really drawn to the green, of course.  But. also how un-designerish it is.  I mean, she lives here.  And, it is pretty and functional.  With a good amount of vintage.  And, not too much stuff... so well edited.
So, to sum it up.... I like am a dripping crystal chandelier

and a Industrial Pendant

And throw in a coral chandelier as well....
I know we are all a mish mash of ideas and experiences, so I guess I will just live with my classic bohemian vintage natural style.

What are you? What are you drawn to? What style feels *home* to you?

(oh, and Mr. Hughes... if you are reading... I am not redecorating... yet)

We are setting up the booth tomorrow so I hope to be able to share some photos with you very soon.  *Super Excited*

All of you going to Farm Chicks... have a great time... wish I was there!

  2. I completely understand what you are saying. My husband likes to call me a contradiction in terms, but I like the way you put it better- "classic bohemian vintage natural style" .
    Have a great day!

  3. I am right there with ya. I always worry about flow in our house and things being too different to be in the same house! :)

  4. I too feel this way! I'm so conflicted between choosing classic simple lines with lots and lots of white or bright bold colors and vintage prints. What's a girl to do?? It must be some kind of split personality or something?

  8. hmm, now you have me thinking! I don't know what style I am either, cause I love the black dress, with some old vintage cowgirl boots and the yellow shirt is sooo purdy! I am all mixed up and confused too, but I don't think I would have it any other way, and I think it is good to have some mixed styles, too much of one thing is not always good!

  10. My husband and I just saw David Gray and The Deadweather (Jack White's newest band)in Houston recently-which were both incredible! I am learning to appreciate the contrast and dimensions in not only my vast range of music choices.. but also my choices in life.

Enjoy not having to contain yourself in any particular "box"!

  11. this is funny. I sooooooo know what you mean. I keep saying I have ADD when it comes to my house. I love lots of color but I also love WHITE, so whats a girl to do? I also feel your pain in the clothes department, I feel like I should dress more classic since I am a 'granny' now but I don't feel old enough yet...and still like the funky clothes and colors...so whats a girl to do?? LOL
Got to say LOVED your post today, can ya tell??! :)

  14. Well, I am an old grandma gardener who likes the bright shirt, jeans, and sandals. I love all things vintage, but something in me loves the molded fiberglass table in one of your pictures. I grew up with it and my dad still has it. He doesn't have the coffee table like the one pictured, but does have side tables. I keep wondering if I could somehow marry them to my chippy furniture...or if I want to...
P.S. ~ I just bought an industrial pendant very similar to the one you have pictured!!

  15. I am the SAME way.. I love industrial but also very girly... throw in some country, maybe some animal prints & some bright bold colors... but lots of white.. Oh yikes! What a mess! But it makes for the MOST adorable design style I swear! :)

  16. Hi there Michelle,
Well, you're not alone....I think that most of us like various styles. It's just that we have to choose one when we are decorating. Our house is Victorian and I love all of our old fireplaces and period features but, I could also live in an ultra modern place.
Enjoy the weekend and, can't wait to see your photos. XXXX

  17. i totally get it! I am drawn to many different styles but they tend to have a common theme... industrial with a little bit of beach cottage and a whole lotta white. Looks like you like color, a classic look, and bold embellishments. Maybe you can work those things in together. What do you think?

  18. This is why I tell my husband that every women needs about three-four homes to decorate. I am a little bit of lots of things;-)

  19. Totally get what you mean. I think this comes with being wiser (aka older). You can appreciate many ideas and good things at the same time. In other words an appreciation that there is one right thing with the rest being wrong. You can love them all. Sadly you can't have them all. ;)

  20. There is so much beauty in the undefined... I am trying to learn to be comfortable in the in between:) Savannah IS great! It was the perfect one year anniversary trip:) Also, I'm really pumped about your booth. I've been collecting inventory and plan to rent out some space at a local antique market at the end of the summer. I can't wait to hear about the experience! Please post tips and observations!

  21. hi michelle,

well i can tell you that i'm a 52 year old grandmother that swears like a truck driver while pruning my roses! no lie.

i have many different looks that i love also, regarding clothing. i could live every day of my life in a pair of jeans and a soft white button up shirt and a pair of flip flops. but i also love to wear skirts and dresses, so i do. here's the good news, so can you!

re decorating. i'm just now truly finding my spot there. it's taken longer for that b/c when you are raising a family you do have to consider all your other room mates. now i get to do things just the way i like. it's not too far off from what i've always done but i can truly say it's me! and i love that.

you strike me as a very creative, intelligent woman who can make up her mind and change it all in the blink of an eye. and i love that too.

  22. Michelle -

You must be a fellow gemini. There's only one thing to do. Buy a vacation home! As far as the wardrobe goes, Mr Hughes will never be bored!
