Some Exciting News!

For me at least!  My Bemis grain sack pillows have been picked up by a semi- local shop (it is in Nolensville...about 40 minutes from me.)  Jane Zavala  is opening up a shop called Roses and Rustics for a sale each month, kind of like a barn sale, but not in a barn but just as good!  And, she decided to try a few of these pillows. This is an honor since this sweet lady has an incredible eye. I still have them available in my etsy shop if you don't live near here, but if you do, go check out her beautiful place.  There are a few other cute antique stores over there too like Three French Hens and The Roost that I have already bragged about, most recently here. The sale is May 6th, 7th, and 8th in Historic Nolensville... be sure to go... it will definitely be worth it!

Herb Pot Covers

hello lovelies!  We were up super early (thanks, baby hughes!)  So, after breakfast I got up and started planting in the backyard.  I already have a mean blister and I still have the front yard to do.  And mulch.... we have to mulch this weekend.   And, I am putting together a mini herb garden in pots... here is what I came up with to cover them.

My parsley plant is small and sad so I will spare you.  I also made dill and rosemary.  And, I am listing them in my etsy shop, so if you love, love, love them they can be yours!

I am also planting some seeds that won't come up until next year... boo!  I like instant gratification.  Oh well, I will probably forget that I planted them and I will get a pretty surprise next year.  Just so you know... I am a very amateur gardener, but I have big dreams to become this:

How cute is she?  I will probably wear pants though and have a big floppy hat... where is her big floppy hat?  I wonder if she craves a margarita on the rocks with extra salt after a hard day in the garden?  I don't remember where I got this photo, but she is 89 and German.  She kind of reminds me how my sweet wonderful grandmother would have aged.  Except she was like 6 foot tall and this lady isn't.
Oh how I miss her!

Well, I am hoping the rain will hold off and we can make it to the Main Street Festival in Franklin or the Flea Market.  The house does need cleaning and the yard isn't going to mulch itself (see?  I already kind of sound like an older lady!)  Happy weekend everyone, hope it is beautiful!

Bell Buckle and Chattanooga

Well, once again we had a  fantabulous weekend!  We were going to go to NC to check out places for the Plan but, baby hughes has been, how do I put it.... less than agreeable lately.  So, a 7 hour car trip did not sound like a good time for Mommy and Daddy.  So, we decided to go to Chattanooga to the aquarium with a few stops along the way to antique... I mean, let baby hughes stretch his growing legs.  Our first stop was Bell Buckle.  That is right, Bell Buckle.  This little tiny town is adorable.  The above strip is pretty much it.  It is famous for it's Moon Pie and RC Cola festival... we are in the South people.  So, we went to the 4 antique shops here... some reasonable, some, not so much.

I want some of these vintage chairs and a glider.  I recently saw one that someone completely restored... so cute.  I like the rust too!

I really want to use one of these.... never mind that I have never mowed a lawn, let alone with one of these babies... some how, I don't think that Mr. Hughes will go for it.

We didn't take any photos in the affordable antique stores... too busy grabbing stuff!  This one was and antique store/ ice cream parlor... does it get much better?

Kicking myself for not getting these cafe chairs!

This place was an old pharmacy... the built in stretched across half the back wall.

Each drawer was labeled... LOVE these.  Not for sale!

Really cute booth...really expensive...

On the strip of shops going to the next one

This booth made me swoon!  These numbers were from an old grocery store that they left on all the shelves.  And, all of these booths were arranged by color, this was my favorite...

oh boy!

This was part of a church... I think it was reliquary...

drool, drool. drool,

Then we strolled around a little more after our lunch before we got back in the car to drive to Manchester.  Manchester's antique stores were disappointing.  So disappointing that we left the overpriced fine antique stores without taking photos.

We arrived in Chattanooga and had dinner and tried to keep our monster quiet so we wouldn't get kicked out.  He was in rare form!  The next morning, we got up early so we could go to the Knitting Mill Antiques before our time to go through the aquarium.  This place was HUGE!

I so wanted to take this chicken coop home for herbs... $35!  But we didn't have any room in the car.  I cried a little inside leaving this.

So, do you believe me when I tell you about the size of this place?  Now there were about 4 aisles like this, and here is the best part....

They had shopping carts, more than likely to allow you to spend mucho dinero, but it allowed for some hands- free shopping for Mommy.

So much stuff to look at, I am sure I missed so much

More vintage goodness!

Then, we drove around the North Shore area and saw so many cute cottages and bungalows. We don't even have photos of the best ones... these are just few that we snapped so we could look them up on zillow when we got back to the hotel.  I have to tell you, I loved this area so much.  Like called a  real estate agent kind of love.

Alot of the houses were built up on stony hills.  It is very hilly in Chattanooga, so the yards were very small... the backyards either went up hill or way down hill.  All the houses were different from one another.  We even figured out where this one was and what is wrong with it.... terrible, junky neighborhood.  The main problem with Chattanooga is the crime.  Mr. Hughes (who has a knack for these things) figured that we would have a 1 in 25 chance of having our house or car broken into.  And, that just isn't the place for our little guy.

Then, we went to this place:

It is incredible!  They have built another building since I had been the last time.  We have a video instead of photos and I won't bore you with me saying..."oh my gosh, look at the turtle, shark, nemo fish...."
But, trust me, this aquarium is great! Two buildings:  the River Journey and the Ocean Journey.  They have a penguin exhibit along with a great jelly fish one too.  The butterfly exhibit was awesome and I even helped one escape (not on purpose.)  Very, very cool.  baby hughes loved the butterflies and the birds, but the fish were kind of lost on him after the first little bit.  He mainly liked the light up photos showing what kind of fish were in the tank.

After we finished, we found a small pizza chain that we adore, Mellow Mushroom.  That is one thing I would miss if we moved too far away.... but, they do have one in Savannah too *wink*

So, there it is, another great weekend  I will try to get some photos this week of the small treasures that made it home with us.  Now, I need to go brush my monster's teeth!  Bye for now!

Last Weekend

Well, I know it is Thursday Night and I am just now writing about our fun last weekend, but this week has been extremely busy with planting and bubbles and just enjoying the weather.  But here goes... oh, and this is a disclaimer... this post is long with lots of mediocre photos.... I had a baby on my hip the whole time trying to grab my camera.

Last weekend we went to the Bloomin' Garden show like we do every year.  They were missing a few of our favorite vendors... Gardenia Liar Lady and Mr. Smokesalot who sells the most amazing citrus trees.  But, it was still quite great.

We got to see the wildlife rescue that rehabilitates birds.  There was a hawk and a crow.  But, most importantly (to baby hughes at least) there was a baby owl.  Unfortunately, the owl was in a little box and was quite sleepy... poor thing had fallen out of the tree...so I didn't get a photo.  The crow got his attention though... he was very loud.  We did find out in the booth next to this one that there is a whole owl sanctuary less than 30 minutes away... we will be checking that out soon.

These lilies were so pretty... and HUGE!

I so wanted one of these, but they were a little more than I wanted to spend.

This was a really neat water feature... too rustic for me, but the sound of the water was great coming off the tin roof

I love wheat grass!

This is part of one of the booths that I am always excited to see at this show...

These canning jars were so neat with their glass lids... I came home with 2!

More vintage goodness!

Wanted it all!!  Look at those great urns!  And that is a horse waterer... I guess...I really don't know anything about horses

I have always wanted a tole chandelier... this one was petite and so cute

And check out that mirror... I am still regretting leaving that one there!

And, now here is one of my favorite places to visit... this is the booth that Three French Hens and The Roost in Nolensville set up.  We actually met these sweet ladies last year at this show and now we drive to Nolensville just to go to these 2 shops.  Check out the split peas... I want to buy some and put them in all kinds of stuff.... I just don't like peas!

Wanted this too!  Their booth was darling, lots of treasures.

Why oh why did I leave this bin there?  Hmm, maybe they still have one.

I also really want one of these necklaces.  The colors are so pretty!

I love moss wreaths

And, look at what they did with this brass chandelier... covered it in moss and wrapped the arms in fabric.  You can find this type of chandelier at the Habitat Home Store and do the same thing for your garden.

Moving on... so, after I bought a table from that booth (I will show you photos of it in a future post) we left the garden show to go out to Nolensville.  We had been there the past weekend and we found this great farmer's stand that was selling ferns and gardenia topiaries amongst other things.  Well, his prices couldn't be beat and his Boston ferns were HUGE!  Well, we bought 2 gardenia topiaries and some sun ferns for the deck.  So, naturally, we went back the following weekend when we had more space and bought the Bostons.  It was the weekend of the Buttercup Festival.  SO cute! And pretty busy.  We didn't get any photos, just because we weren't thinking.

Well, we Mr. Hughes got this one... This was in the back of a little courtyard by a creek.  I want this to be my Studio!

We found a great new shop that will be open for once a month sales.... Roses and Rustics.  The owner, Jane, has an amazing eye, I will definitely take photos next month at her sale.

After we bought 4 ginormous ferns, we started home.  We went through downtown Franklin and stopped by to see Scarlett and stopped by our weekly haunt

Sweet CeCe's.  Is Tennessee the only place where Frozen Yogurt is "in" again?  This place is too cute and baby hughes adores it.  He and I always share and my chocoholic husband gets his own... baby hughes and I prefer the fruity or non- chocolate stuff.

Then, on Sunday, Nana came to watch baby hughes while Mr. Hughes and I went to see this guy at the Ryman:

Can't tell who it is?  It is David Gray... one of the best shows ever.  He is amazing.  And great.  And British... have I mentioned I like most things British *wink*
Anyhow, I just found out that he is coming back to Nashville in August with the guy that just blows me away, Ray Lamontagne.  LOVE him.  And, it will be, I am sure, my all time favorite concert.

So, last weekend was full of fabulousness.  And, as I am writing this, I am supposed to be packing for this weekend.  We were going to check out some places in North Carolina, but we just don't think baby hughes can take a 7 hour trip this weekend.... teething still and a little grumpy.  So, we are going to Chattanooga to the aquarium and stopping in some little towns along the way.

Here's hoping your weekend is muy spectacular!
